The Association in 2006 established Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education (Visual Impairment) which offers one-year Bachelor of Education (Special Education for visually impaired) Course affiliated to the prestigious University of Delhi. First of its kind to be started under Delhi University and a milestone in the history of The Blind Relief Association, the College is a befitting tribute to the Association’s former President and mentor extraordinary Dr.Durgabai Deshmukh.
The College admits 20 student each year to the one-year B.Ed. course. The College has an experienced faculty. The College has a Resource Room and library of its own, besides the convenient availability of computer labs . The College is located in the Association’s premises on Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg with JPM Senior Secondary School for Blind located in the same premises as practicing school.
The College inherits 4-decade old rich tradition of Teachers Training Programme run by the Association since 1967 under which over 900 teachers of the visually challenged have been trained so far, who are now serving across the country. The Training Centre for the Teachers for the Visually Handicapped (TCTVH), being run with the support from National Institute of Visually Handicapped (NIVH), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, is currently running 2-year Diploma Course in Elementary Education (Visual Impairment). The Diploma course programme will be suspended from the Year 2007.
Diwali Bazaar : A popular annual event held in the lawns of the Association to raise funds for the Association.
Abilities Mela : A partnership event to showcase the capabilities of specially-abled persons.
