1944 - Establishment of the Association by Dr.(Mrs.) Anusuya & Mr. U.A. Basrurker, eminent freedom fighters and social workers.

1945 - Sheltered workshop for the Blind at Lal Kuan, Badarpur in rural Delhi.

1955 - Foundation stone of the building at New Delhi laid by Dr. Helen Keller, renowned philosopher, educationist and social reformer of U.S.A.

1966 - Inauguration of the building by Smt. Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister of India.

1967 - J.P.M. Senior Secondary School in memory of Shri Jormal Periwal, donor, for the substantial contribution.

         - Technical Training Centre cum workshop for the blind.

        - Training Centre for Teachers of the Blind and shifting of candle making unit from Badarpur to New Delhi.

1982 - Studio for recording text books for the blind.

1986 - Unit for Children with blindness coupled with learning disabilities.

1994 - Vocational training in book binding/stationary making, repair of household electrical/electronic appliances.

1996 - Computer literacy for adults.

1999 - Computer training for school students.

2002 - Computerised Braille literacy in Indian languages.

2003 - Massage training.

2006 - Establishment of Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education (Visual Impairment).

           - Community Outreach Programme for children with multiple disabilities.

           - Entrepreneurship Development Programme

Presidents (Past & Present)

The Association is proud and fortunate that it received the most able stewardship of eminent persons like Mr. Anantsayanam Ayyangar, former Speaker of Lok Sabha; Dr.(Mrs.) Durgabai Deshmukh, a renowed social worker and freedom fighter and Dr. Bharat Ram, a distinguished industrialist and philanthropist. After the demise of Dr.Bharat Ram in Auguat 2007 Justice (Dr) A.S.Anand, former Chief Justice of India and Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission has taken over as the President and Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Association.
