We aspire for an inclusive world where the physically disabled, especially the visually challenged, are not allowed to be marginalized and where every avenue is available to them to develop and realize their potentials and play their role as equal members of society.
Annual Picnic : Annual Picnic for all employees of Blind Relief Association to be held on 7 Feb 2009.
Annual Day : Blind Relief Association's Annual Day to be celebrated in the premises of the Association.
Founded on 26th February 1944 by the visionary noble couple Mr.Umesh A. Basrurker - a freedom fighter, social worker and by profession an automobile engineer, and his Medical Doctor wife Dr. Mrs.Anusuya Basrurker –, the Blind Relief Association, Delhi is a premier organization working for empowerment and rehabilitation of the visually challenged through providing them education, vocational training and a host of other services.
In the pre-independence days of 1940s when the country had just a handful of institutions for the vast population of visually challenged, Basrurkers planted in 1945 a tiny sapling in the form of Industrial Home and School for the Blind at Lal Kuan, Badarpur on the rural outskirts of Delhi with just 2 visually challenged children. It is a tribute to their vision and the nurturing this institution received in its formative years that the Association has grown to become a leading organization of its kind in the country having an impressive and prominently located campus in the heart of New Delhi where at any given time nearly 300 visually challenged and others persons reside and directly avail the benefit of the wide range of its services. It is no less a tribute to the successive mentors, the dedicated staff and the band of social workers and other supporters that the Association occupies a prominent place among voluntary and non-profit organizations working in the field of disability.
The Association is running a Senior Secondary School for the Blind Boys, a Technical Training Centre imparting vocational training in industrial/engineering and other trades and skills, a College conducting Bachelors in Special Education course programme under the prestigious University of Delhi, besides a variety of services. These facilities and services directly or indirectly benefit thousands of visually impaired and persons with other disabilities.
